Political Changes

This nations citizenry scares the hell out of me.  We have a political party that has been trying to kill our democracy and install a fascist style of government.  Let’s take a look at the items that have changed in the last two years:

  1. State Republican legislatures have passed laws disenfranchising a number of voters.  This is all under the guise of protecting our elections because their cult leader still insists that he did not lose.  There legislative actions may change the outcomes of the next two elections and a majority of voters will not have their choices counted because the legislators want to make sure that their party will gain control and the way to do it is to deny voters their right to vote.
  2. School sports have been a part of education for over 100 years.  Being a part of a team teaches a student to work together to a common goal.  Winning teaches humility and losing teaches grace.  If a student is forbidden to play a sport because of his/her transgender the opportunity to learn these qualities and provide lessons to other students is a missed opportunity to gain knowledge.  Their participation could be a good lesson to other students about sexuality that is not provided in the classroom.
  3. Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation is another opportunity lost for students to learn about differences that people have concerning sex.  It also opens up an avenue for bullying that is usually condemned by students who are aware of the differences.  Republicans like to bully and make fun of people who are different because of a handicap or sexual orientation.
  4. The actions of some members of the Republican Party would normally be criticized by normal caring people.  Two ladies(?) of the party thought that their outbursts during President Biden’s State of the Union speech would give them a ticker tape parade in New York.  I am sure their mothers are not proud.  Another representative distributed cartoons of acts of violence against a member of the opposing party.  The heads of the Republican Party have not disciplined any of their members for such idiotic behavior.  When you are a leader, you lead.  Kevin McCarthy has proven he is not a leader, but a brown nose flunky for the forty-fifth president.
  5. There are many people who believe that the January 6th attempted coup was a tourist trip gone wrong.  We are finding out that a plan was developed to overturn the election.  If the Republicans gain control of Congress, they have said that they will disband the committee looking into the insurrection and all information concerning the people behind the plan will be lost and history will be rewritten.  The former president also said he would pardon those who have been accused of violating our democracy.
  6. Evangelicals have played a big part in the Republican Party.  Many have hidden behind religion to further their cause to make Christianity our national religion.  Although our Constitution says that: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

Many are against the LBGTQ agenda that respects the rights of gays and transgenders to live in our society without prejudice.  Most evangelicals believe in inerrancy (the Bible is without error).  Stories of the rejection of marriage licenses to gays by town clerks who claim that their religion is against unions between people of the same sex therefore they are forbidden to release a marriage license if that is the purpose.  There have been pharmacists who will not fill a prescription for birth control pills because, they claim, that it is against their religion.

Some evangelical preachers have said that their god told them that the 45th president was ordained to be president.  There god and my God are two different spiritual beings.  My God would not be in favor of having a person who cheats on three wives, had a fake university and foundation that he and his family stole money from and mocks disabled people be put in charge of anything much less the leader of the free world.

  •   There have been at least two dozen books written about the failed forty-fifth president and his administration. I do not think that in our entire history that many tomes have been written supporting the downfall of a supposed idol.   Seventy-four million of our fellow citizens voted to keep him in office.  Fortunately, eighty-three million voters voted to keep him out of office. In his action to disrupt the vote, he states he won by a “landslide” without any proof.

Anyone who mocks a person with a disability is not worthy of any elected office.  He mocked a news reporter who has arthrogryposis, a congenital condition that effects the joints.  He later said that he did not mock anybody although there is video proof that he did.

We have always been proud of the transition of power process.  The past president convinced his following that the election was rigged.  Six-four lawsuits proved that the election was honest, but that did not stop him and his minions from continuing the “Big Lie.”  His actions should be labeled as treasonous and he should be tried for the offense. If he is ever elected again and the Congress is dominated by the Republican Party, I predict that our Constitution will be suspended and a fascist form of government will be installed in our nation.  Democracy will be dead.  I hate to see the riots that would follow and the citizens who would die because live ammunition would be deployed in order to stop the riots.

  •  We live in a nation where freedom of speech and freedom of press has dominated our values.  We have people who hide behind those rights to disrupt our lives.  The participants of the January 6th attempted coup say that their right to free speech is being disregarded and they should not be in court and tried for any injustice because they were acting on a Constitutional right.  The riot was reported and televised nationally.  If some people think that was not an insult to free speech, they must have been thinking they were watching a movie.

  1. First off I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t
mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or
    tips? Many thanks!

    1. I sometimes think of items to write about before I fall asleep. My wife died six years ago so I live alone. I am a former retired newspaper publisher and wrote a number of editorials during my professional career.
Thank you for the kind words. Keep in touch. I will try to write more in the coming weeks.

  2. I have to thank you for the efforts you have put in writing this site. I really hope to view the same high-grade content by you later on as well. In fact, your creative writing abilities has inspired me to get my very own blog now 😉
